As a result of the double agenda pertaining to the emancipation of women， their participation in production， made visible in posters， was seen as one of the basic keys to bring about their liberation. although posters of women working as welders or in other industrial activities do appear in the first one and a half decade of prc-posters， most of their activities in this period remain located in agriculture.
Their work in this sector ranged from working in the fields to raising livestock. during the campaigns where the setting up of sideline occupations was stressed， women in particular played an important role. the pervading message in these campaigns seemed to be that women still had plenty of time and energy left to engage in sideline activities after they had returned from spending a long day of backbreaking work in the fields.by the late 1950s， when the policies designed to mechanize agriculture actually resulted in more mechanized equipment becoming available in the rural areas， the tractor was gradually introduced in posters. more often that not， posters showed how this piece of modern heavy-duty equipment was operated by a woman. the propaganda intention of the posters featuring these tractor girls seemed to be two-fold: it illustrated both the increases in the availability of farm machinery (and the successes of the party in XXX all this possible) and the ability of women to actually operate these machines. in reality， however， the tractor operator usually was a man.
By the time of the cultural revolution， this trend of showing women taking on types of work generally associated with men was continued. in particular during the time when the movement to learn from the agricultural model commune of dazhai was at its peak in the 1960s and 1970s， the muscular and energetic female team members， “imitation boys” (jia xiaozi) or “iron women” (tie nüren) working under commune leader chen yonggui， played an enormously influential function as role models for women. iron girls inspired women to take on the most difficult and demanding tasks.generally speaking， then， women were confined to agriculture. women in the forefront of industrial production only became a poster theme from the great leap forward onwards. the trend was continued in cultural revolution posters， when women increasingly were represented while at work in factories. this was not necessarily limited to the textile industries， which were traditionally seen as typical places where women ought to work.
Although not explicitly visible in propaganda posters， female members of the urban work force were employed along unstated gender lines. men usually were given technical jobs， and women were assigned non-technical， auxiliary and service jobs， regardless of their educational level.while women who in preceding decades often were depicted while engaging in typically masculine pursuits， strong pressure was exerted on them in the 1980s to return to their traditional， more 'feminine' roles of servants/waitresses， mothers and child-rearers. paralleling the changes in thinking among the leadership， the need was no longer felt in official art to urge women to break through the traditional assumptions of gender inferiority.
Instead of going out to work， they were exhorted more and more often to return to the stove and engage in home XXX. such exhortations were voiced with renewed vigor in the late 1990s， when female workers who had been made redundant by the ever larger number of bankrupt state-owned industries were called upon to take on the responsibility for the domestic side of family life. a number of women on maternity leave even saw their legally granted period of absence extended indefinitely. on the other hand， the large numbers of women migrating from rural areas looking for employment in industry， the so-called 'working girls' (dagongmei)， constitute a relatively cheap female labor force that is exploited relentlessly in the name of economic development.

It’s a short story by O.Henry that has moved me for a long time.Maybe most of you are familar with its name,that is,The Gift of the Magi.I have read it many times but every time I like to read it slowly and deliberately.I think “The Gift of the Magi”
is meant to be savored.
Maybe there is no necessity for me to repeat the main idea of the story.But I’m
so fascinated with the short story that I want to retell it yo you,and to myself.
It happened to a very poor but blissful young couple named Jim and Della in the end of 18th century in England.Because of the maladies of that society and the effect of economic crisis,they worked hard but earned little.Life is very hard for them.Despite of this,their love to each other and the enthusiasm for life didn’t changed at all.When Chrismas day was approuching ,Della used the money she got from selling her beautiful hair which she treasured very much to give Jim a fob for his grandfather’s pocket watch.But Jim had already sold that watch to buy Della tortoiseshell combs to wear in her long hair,not knowing she’d cut it off.
It appears that the gifts they gave each other have been useless.But I think they gave each other the best of what they had to make the other happy.Isn’t that true love?We can image,in such rough conditions,as it said in the story,”Life is made up of sobs,sniffles,and smiles,with sniffles predominating.”Its’t absolute reasonable for them to be beaten by the misery.But the fact is that no matter how tough life had been,they would’t lose heart.With strong faith and their love ,they did their best to make the other pleased.”Whennever Mr. James came home and reached his flat ,above he was called ‘Jim’and greatly hugged by Mrs. James.”Maybe this account is the best description of their love and struggle against hard life.It was said that the povertier life is ,the firmer and truer love is.”Actually,they’d given the very best they had out of love.
“They are too foolish children in a flat,who most unwisely sacrificed for each other the greatest treasures of their house.But in a last word,to the wise of these days,let it be said that of all who give gifts these two were the wisest.”Said the writer in the last paragraph.Yes,they are wisest.They are the magi.Are there any reasons for us not to show respect for the young couple?
I remind my grandparents.They have spent fifty years together.No romantic words,no stirring behaviours,just comman even pedestrian life.But I can say love exists in every detail of their life.They have gone through war period,three years’ natural disasters,cultural revolution and so on.But no matter what happens,they are always considering for the other.Even now both of them have become old step by step,they still cared about each other.My grandparents,in my opinion,is a pair of lovers forever.
Love has nothing to do with money,possession or status.It’s consideration,tolerance and respect.It’s giving one’s best to the other even it means sacrifice.It’s affection which connects two persons’ hearts,and it’s reinforced by adversities.
Struggle against adversities.Nothing did they have,at least they owened love.Never give up as long as love exists.From”The Gift of the Magi”,from Jim and Della and from my grandparents,I have learned a lot about love,life and hope.

In the Happy Life,the author tells us what the happy life is in his eyes.A happy life is not the easy,smooth,vegetating life,but is made up of brief grand blessedness which is obtained through hard work.The happy life cannot be sought deliberately; hence,we should never flatter others but tell truth in love.Sacrifices should be contained in the happy life as well.
I cannot agree with the authors definition of the happy life any more.Many people are running after happy lives,but only a few of them know what happiness is.Usually asked what the happiness is,I generally use some brief nouns such as well-being,satisfaction,etc.to definite it.There is no doubt that what I am thinking about happiness are the answers of many other people’s.After reading this passage,we learn a totally new explanation of the happy life.As the author says the remembrance of a brief grand blessedness may be sweeter and more precious than years upon years of quiet,uninterrupted content.Only through a progress of hardworking can we feel the real happiness of life.Providing there are two apples on a tree; one can be reached easily while the other is beyond your reach.You get the first apple easily,let us say,and then you try to reach the second one.After jumping up you finally manage to get it.
The moment you get the second apple you must be happier than the moment you get the first one.What makes you happier is the progress of making efforts.What’s more,the opinion that the happiness cannot be deliberately sought impresses me as well.People always dislike the warnings.Therefore they prefer to be flattered and to flatter others,thinking that what they have done will make others happy.As a matter of fact,they’re absolutely wrong.We’re always ignoring the injuries of flattery.We may be happy for a short moment,however,in the light of time’s perspective we’re greatly injuries.Because these flatteries will make us far from the truth and discourage us to improve our personal qualities.The happy life is a remarkable essay.The author uses his wisdom to analyze the essence of happy life logically.He also set some examples to illustrate his viewpoint powerfully.We learn from his words what the real happy life is and we should pursue the happy life correctly.
