后来百姓们为了保全屈原的尸体而往江里面投放粽子和鸡蛋，希望江里的鱼不要吃屈原，还把船装扮成龙的样子在江面上划来划去以便驱赶水怪。从此为了纪念屈原的爱国精神，就把每年的农历五月初五定为端午节。
