在沙翁所有的作品里，《哈姆雷特》或许是最受争议的一部，也是最受注目的一部。无论你在人生的哪一个阶段，当你经历了一场丰富而深刻的精神生活，当你提升了自己的人格，重新发现了一个全新的自我，你总是能在〈哈姆雷特〉里找到一些你会觉得那似乎就应是属于永恒与不朽的东西。在很大的层面上，它描述的是一种极其原始的杯具，人的杯具。
这个戏剧中有一段十分经典的关于死亡的台词：
