I believe Knowledge is power . I hope I can learn a lot from these books and improve my study. In the evening, my family had a big dinner party. The Lunar New Year is a great occasion to the Chinese people. It lasts about the first four days of the year， during which people do not work except for the workers on duty. Students do not go to school， and shops are closed.
Several days before the new year， people begin to prepare. Farmers kill pigs， sheep， cocks and hens. City dwellers buy meat fish and vegetables. Houses are cleaned; coupletsare posted on the doors. Colourful lanterns are hung at the gate.
On the eve of the new year， each family has its members gatherd together and eats a family reunion dinner. After the meal they watch TV until the clock strickes twelve. Then every family sets off long strings of small firecrackers and other fire works to welcome the new year. On the first day of the new year， almost everyone is dressed in his or her best. On Tuesday morning, our school has an annual festival of new years day.
Morning, I brought the jubilant balloon into the classroom, usually silent classroom becomes lively, parents are dedicated to decorate each place, let the classroom become a big stage to a riot of colours. The students were smiling and excited, flying like a happy bird.
8 morning, the four spirits host shining on stage, they are representative of language -- Wu Xiaomeng, Chai Chenxi, monitor on duty - Shaanxi Xi and Wu Qirui. The three (4) new years day show began in a warm applause. Soon, everyone was looking forward to the climax of the long show. The three anchors announced in a different voice: "please enjoy the show of Wu Qirui - playing the zither!" The music played like a stream of water, soothing and agreeable, and the students applauded Wu Qirui in the same way. Not long after, excited me show coming, the host announcer: "the following is the Zibin Rao nazonazo!" I walked up to the stage with confidence and put forward the first question. The students were all scrambling to raise their hands. The second problem, also let the students scratching for quite a while, when I was ready to answer when Du Yuanhao raised his hand and tell you the answer. I was amazed and cried, "right. Right! " On the last question, my God, mystical, took out a piece of paper and said, "who can finish this problem in ten seconds, who is the last winner!" The finale of the new years festival is a long history of game -- beating the drum to spread flowers, shouting "stop", when the "flower" is sent to anyone, who will perform a program. After performing, we can get 1 to 2 lollipop according to the performance content. The game began. "Flower" became a "time bomb". When the students got flowers, they threw up a bunch of people. They didnt want to show themselves on the stage, but they could get candy. But when the teacher said "stop" for a moment, "flower" still came to my hand without mercy. I had to perform the show. Wu Xiaomeng gave me two lollipop, and I jumped up with joy.
Happy time is always short, less than 1 hours, happy New Years performance is ended in warm cheers, but its memory in my heart is forever.

Yuandan is the first day of the lunar calendar. It is the day when the earth has circled the sun for one round and is beginning another circling. It represents a new beginning when people send off the old days and welcome the new ones. As the first day of the year, Yuandan has been considered to be the most important festival since the ancient times.
Customs
1. Kaisui(beginning of the year): According to the Chinese traditional custom, starting from haishi(9p.m. to 11p.m.)of the last evening of the twelfth lunar month, each family must prepare offering s to deities at the altar. At the same time, they too prepare food for the New Year day: The whole family will then stay awake together to attend to the year(called shou sui). After haishi, zishi(11p.m. to 1a.m.)will come, and this is the arrival of New Year(Yuandan). At this moment, people begin the celebration with fireworks. Vegetarian and sweet foods will then be placed are the altar for offerings, and incense be burned to welcome the deities. In the ancient times, it was believed that haishi connected the two years and thus was called kaisui.
At the same night, some families will follow the instruction in Tongshu and place preparing altar in the direction of the "fortune deity" during the "fortune time" to receive the deity. If the direction of the "fortune deity" is at the "ill position", people will choose to receive "happy deity" or "noble deity" instead.
2. There is an apparent difference in the custom of food taking on Yuandan between the Chinese in the northern and southern regions. The northern Chinese has the habit of taking jiao zi(dumpling made of flour with vegetable and meat wrapped inside). Some people may put a sweet or a coin inside jiao zi, hoping to have a sweet year after tasting the sweet and a wealthy year after tasting the coin. on the other hand, the southern Chinese have the taboo for killing on Yuandan. Therefore, they do not take meat in tee morning of Yuandan, so as to avoid bloodshed or mutual slaughter. In order to evade misfortune, they have the first meal of this day without meat. Instead, they take vegetarian food for the sake of virtue.
3. What is special during the New Year is that parents or elders will distribute red packets(ang pao or ya sui qian)to the children. People in the ancient times were more particular in giving away the red packets: the distribution took place on the eve of New Year so that the kids could suppress the past year and enter the New Year. Ya sui has the meaning of overcoming the unpredictable future. Representing the wishes for the healthy psychological growth of the children, ya sui qian symbolises the elders hope to see their children overcome all the unpredictable elements brought by the "year".

After the wonderful programs of the students, the party ended satisfactorily. I look forward to the next years new years party, and we will do more.

The sacrifice to the ancestors, the most vital of all the rituals, united the living members with those who had passed away. Departed relatives are remembered with great respect because they were responsible for laying the foundations for the fortune and glory of the family.
The presence of the ancestors is acknowledged on New Year's Eve with a dinner arranged for them at the family banquet table. The spirits of the ancestors, together with the living, celebrate the onset of the New Year as one great munity. The munal feast called "surrounding the stove". the old story says that the beast "nian" with a very big mouth was so fierce and could swallow many people in one single bite. people were very scared. an old man offered to subdue "nian" and said to "nian": "i hear that you are very capable, but can you swallow the other beasts instead of people who are by no means of your worthy opponents?" so "nian" swallowed many of the other beasts that hurt people and their domestic animals.
the old man turned out to be an immortal god and riding the beast "nian" flied to the heaven. now that "nian" is gone and other beasts were also scared into forests, people began to enjoy their peaceful life. before the old man left, he had told people to put up red paper decorations on their windows and doors at each year's end to scare away "nian" in case it sneaked back again, because red is the color the beast feared the most.
from there on, the term "guo nian" has the meaning of "pass-over" or "survive" the "nian". by tradition, chinese businesses had to pay off all debts by the year-end and thus if they could get it over, it is worth for the celebration of the new year.
today people still put up red paper and firing firecrackers as way of celebration. "guo nian" becomes a tradition of celebration for thousand of years.
