听爷爷说，他们读书的时候，因学费非常昂贵，许多孩子都不能上学。现在，学费免了，住宿费免了，连书本费都免了，贫困的孩子每年至少要得到国家300元的生活补助费，让每一个孩子都能上学。
医疗事业也有了长足的进步。合作医疗实现了，现在有病就能治，人人都享有了医疗保障。前几年，有病得不到有效医治，是因为药价太贵了，老百姓吃不起。为节省一点钱，有了病就在家里熬草药煎服，甚至能拖的就拖下去。
