However, it is not really a church holiday, it is a holiday for children mainly. Every autumn, when the vegetables are ready to eat, children pick large orange pumpkins. Then they cut faces in the pumpkins and put a burning candle inside. It looks as if there were a person looking out of the pumpkin! These lights are called jack-o'-lanterns, which means "Jack of the lantern". The children also put on strange masks and frightening costumes every Halloween. Some children paint their faces to look like monsters. Then they carry boxes or bags from house to house. Every time they come to a new house, they say,"Trick or treat! Money or eat!" The grown-ups put treat-money or candy in their bags.
Not only children, but most grown-ups also love Halloween and Halloween parties because on this day,they can disguise themselves as personages or ghost as their imaginations will lead them. This bring them the satisfaction of being young.

每年的10月31日是西方国家的传统节日----万圣节。在万圣节前夕，我们杭州网的小记者展开了一次“万圣节英语文化之旅”。
我和妈妈早早地来到了活动集合地点，报到后领了一张活动的介绍。等人差不多齐了后，我们各自得到了一个英文名，然后来到了一个充满万圣节气氛的小屋：神秘的黑色城堡与坟墓；诡异的南瓜灯；墙上贴满了各种各样的妖魔鬼怪的图案······让人直冒冷汗。
活动开始了，首先是通过一个小短片让我们知道了万圣节的由来：万圣节最早是爱尔兰人驱赶鬼神的节日，又叫“夏之尽头”。但信奉神的教皇不同意了，便把11月1日订为跪拜鬼神的.节日，但10月31日晚要驱赶鬼神的呀，于是正式把“夏之尽头”改为“Hlloween(万圣节)”。据说这一天在西方国家，孩子们都会穿上精灵古怪的衣服提着南瓜灯挨家挨户讨糖吃。
既然说到挨家讨糖吃，接下来我们就玩了“Trick or treat（不给糖就捣蛋）”的游戏。我提了一盏南瓜灯敲了敲门，笑嘻嘻地说：“Trick or treat”，然后走进门，老师就给我了两颗糖。耶！太容易了！
最好玩的要数“咬苹果”了。老师把苹果悬挂在绳子上让我们去咬，但只能用嘴不能用手，谁先咬到，谁就是优胜者。轮到我了，我挑了个最中间的苹果准备下嘴。可是我的嘴刚碰到苹果，它就“跳”开了，反复尝试了好几次，都以失败告终。我急了，对准苹果张大嘴露出锋利的牙齿狠狠地咬了下去。呜……苹果“逃”得更快了，还来了个“反弹”，我的鼻子！游戏时间到了，虽然我没有咬到苹果，但作为鼓励老师还是送了我一只苹果。哈哈！我连忙用双手接过苹果咬了下去。这下你“逃”不掉了吧，用手拿着吃就是方便啊！

One day, when Epimetheus was out, she lifted the lid and out it came unrest and war, Plague and sickness, theft and violence, grief, sorrow, and all the other evils. The human world was hence to experience these evils. Only hope stayed within the mouth of the jar and never flew out. So men always have hope within their hearts.
